Welcome to Callie’s Cause

An Epic Day to End Epilepsy!

My Physical Challenge to raise awareness and money to help end epilepsy was a major success. We had a total show up of 53 Callie’s Cause paddlers and runners, including from Hawaii, Tennessee, South Carolina and all over California.

In total, we completed 70.2 miles of paddling and running over 3 days — all injury-free. The sky was clear and sunny and all the conditions we needed for a success race were perfect. The paddle was incredible. We were escorted by dolphins most of the way. The marathon was beautiful, but pure torture.

Theresa McDowell on Catalina looked after us all very well — thanks “Mother Theresa”! Also the biggest shout out to Joe Bark for making this whole thing happen. He’s just an incredible person with remarkable passion and a huge heart.

Darlene and I are still stunned on all the love and participation from people who joined us on this epic journey. Our pain and fatigue that week end doesn’t even come close to what a child with epilepsy goes through every seizure.

Check out the photos below. Then kindly consider making a donation to help end epilepsy once and for all!

Terranea Resort with Catalina Island in the distance

Terranea Resort with Catalina Island in the distance

For the last 3 years, our friend and paddleboard builder Joe Bark has been doing an insane event for fun.

Joe and a “few” friends paddle from The Terranea Resort (Old Marineland) Palos Verdes, CA to Catalina Island. It’s a 20-mile paddle.

The next day, the crew runs the Catalina Marathon and spends the night.

On the third day Joe and friends paddle back to Palos Verdes. A 3 day gruelling event led by smiles, camaraderie, and pure stoke! Joe has asked me the last 3 years to do this event.

This year is a no brainer under 1 condition: allow me to do my part as a fundraiser for Epilepsy and UCLA Pediatric Neurology. With Joe’s blessing, I’m doing this gruelling 3 day physical and mental challenge to raise awareness and raise money for epilepsy.
